Boston Marathon!
The Boston Marathon - A Goal Achieved
I’ve always dreamed of running the Boston Marathon, and finally qualified now that I am over 45.  I ran the Top of Utah Marathon in September with a time of 3:23:01 -- over 7 minutes faster than needed to qualify.  My partner (Mike) and my brother (Scott) also ran in Utah.  Scott is coming to Boston too, with a screaming fast qualifying time.

I owe Darren De Reuck and the Boulder Striders a big thank-you for all the training and support.  Six of us from our fantastic running group will be at the race.

As part of the honor of running this prestigious race, I wanted to do something to give back.  In October, I watched a slide-show of work that Dr. Charles Steinberg and his wife Torkin Wakefield have been doing in Uganda to help eradicate poverty and battle AIDS.  So I decided to do this run to benefit BeadforLife, a non-profit organization that Torkin founded to help women with HIV/AIDS and refugees from the war in Northern Uganda.

This fundraising campaign will go directly toward supporting the education of Ugandan kids.   Please read about these special Marathon Kids.

Please sponsor my run!
We’re doing great as of the race date (4/16/07).  We’ve raised over $5000 so far, which is more than enough to sponsor the four Marathon Kids.  We’re going to be adding at least one more kid based on the success of this campaign.

I’m providing the following four options for sponsoring my run:

1)  Cisco employees can have their contributions 100% matched by Cisco.  If you are a Cisco employee, please follow this link for instructions on how to contribute.

2)  Send me an email with your name, address, and (optionally) how much you would like to pledge, and I will send you an envelope and pledge form.

3)  Donate online using PayPal by following this link.  PayPal takes a small percentage of the donation, but it’s an easy way to take care of this online.

4)  Send in your contributions directly using the instructions at this link.

Thanks a million!  I will be inspired during the race by your generosity, and the people of Uganda will benefit greatly.
